WHO IS THE WFR COURSE FOR?

The WFR is the perfect course for anyone working in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting or for individuals who want a high level of wilderness medical training for extended personal backcountry trips or expeditions.

WHAT IS TAUGHT?

The WFR is 80 hours long (10 days), and is a comprehensive and in-depth look at the standards and skills of dealing with: Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies and Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies. Although these appear to be the same basic topics covered in our two-day WFA course, they are covered far more extensively, and there is much more hands-on practice.

WHERE AND WHEN IS IT HELD?

The next WFR will be held at Fox Run Lodge
4466 S Glenn Hwy, Palmer, AK 99645-8214

WHAT ABOUT LODGING?

Fox Run has tent camping and lodging available for an additional fee. Call 907-745-6120 for details.

IS THERE AN EXAM?

There is ongoing evaluation of practical skills, and a written test.

DO I GET CERTIFIED?

Yes. Your SOLO WFR certification is good for three years. You will also receive Heartsaver/CPR certification.

HOW DO I RECERTIFY?

You may take either a 2-day WFR Refresher Course or a 2-day WFA course.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Bring what you would normally bring into the backcountry. Part of WFA is learning how to use the resources at hand. It definitely helps to have your own gear with you. You will be spending a lot of time outside, so bring clothing appropriate to the time of year and current weather. Some really helpful items to have for the course:

- Food for yourself for each day of the course.
- Water bottle.
- Sleeping pad.
- Crazy-creek chair will make the classroom portion more comfortable.
- Backpack.
- Tarp, tent footprint, or rainfly.
- And it's always a good idea to bring some rain gear just in case.
